For Meike, fabrics are what paint is to a painter. A key part of her work process is to constantly experiment with the fabrics she uses. She subjects them to different treatments - bleaching them, painting them, embroidering them, exposing them to the elements and dyeing them - all with the aim of transforming their initial neutral appearance into a work full of character and depth. She draws her main inspiration from the mystery of our existence, the question of what comes after life, the interconnectedness of everything, astrophysics and phenomena that cannot be explained. For her, creating art is a way to reconcile the unknown spiritual world with the world we call our reality and to preserve the ability to create something with your own hands as a contrast to AI.
